Dear mother

Mother, you have put forth the most adorable creature and all eyes became moist and teary in affection. They watched you cuddle your child in Thanksgiving oblivious of your struggles and the struggles yet to come.  The nights came with deep cries from a tiny creature whom you couldn't ignore. You nursed him in weariness and deep discomfort. You took to your knees and in front of your baby you cried in silence. They didn't see your weakness. They thought motherhood was normal but I know it's not. I know about the mood swings buried under your zeal to pretend that everything is fine. Those days when you wake up from a thirty minute sleep feeling worthless and out of place.  I know about the trips to the toilet to cry under the sound of your shower. Breathing in and out furiously and trying to keep calm. I know how hard it was for you to walk out with a smile amidst a red swollen face. Bloated eyes tired since the day you pushed your baby into the world. I know about your ...

Eve

Eve, with those feeble hands, intertwined with grief unending. You have been pushed to the wall and your guts grew in the process. Eve, you watched him go to and fro, and those nights seemed unending as your pillow drank your tears till dawn. You watched him walk in with a deep look of indifference, smelling like all the flavours of women on Earth. On every other day, those perfumes would have smelt beautiful but certainly not today and not on your husband's body! You looked deep at him and the Jezebel in you started growing bigger, your days became plot trainings. Your bones became stronger and you mustered a permanent smite on your face. Your eyes burned with fire but he never noticed. Adam, oblivious of these changes, never knew you were becoming his regret in life. He never knew you were capable, he brought you to crossroads and left you without options. Adam grew the Jezebel in you and you walked right into her bosom. On the day of your death, Adam, you weren't looking...

Letter to my son

Ugo m, the first son of my homestead My pride and joy The one from which my grand children will evolve Pure are your ways, soothing to my wish You bruised my womb even when I knew you not Wincing at my voice you kicked harder My lover unknown When I saw you, I smiled For I knew you all along For you, I gave away my soul I lost my body but I felt whole At the sound of your cry Beaming with smiles, I called you blessed The walls watched while I nursed you Into the iroko tree in your father's house I groaned and grieved for years Until your wings carried the feathers of education And your eyes knew wisdom No man born of a woman will say to me at the square "You are a bad mother!" May the gods bruise their lips! They will tarry at the market place with no sales! For they have touched the tail of a lioness CATALEABONEZ

Oñwubiko!

Onwubiko! You are the only Victor over mankind Tested by tears and bleeding hearts You have bruised my heart and shattered this house Breaking through a beaming face You brought distress and pain Who do we ask? Is it our long forgotten forefathers? I saw you roaming in wistful arrogance Your trails were faint on the walls Leaving hints I couldn't understand It was a letter for me untold In anger and anguish Written off by the pangs of regret I sit in the temple gates of my heart Where I know the King of Kings dwellet Where my tears know no bounds My heart broken in shambles Starring deep at the great unknown Where the answers lay

The Iroko

Ugom, the first son of my homestead My pride and joy The one from which my grand children will evolve Pure are your ways, soothing to my wish You bruised my womb even when I knew you not Wincing at my voice you kicked harder My lover unknown When I saw you, I smiled For I knew you all along For you, I gave away my soul I lost my body but I felt whole At the sound of your cry Beaming with smiles, I called you blessed The walls watched while I nursed you Into the iroko tree in your father's house I groaned and grieved for years Until your wings carried the feathers of education And your eyes knew wisdom No man born of a woman will say to me at the square "You are a bad mother!" May the gods bruise their lips! They will tarry at the market place with no sales! For they have touched the tail of a lioness CATALEABONEZ

Live and let live

1st November 2019 A warm morning at Kurudu. I had a feeling my morning wouldn't be so swirl when I couldn't reach my fellow IT colleague. PS my name is Favour Kosisochukwu Onyejekwe. I recently got accepted at AIT as an Intern. I bet no one would have been more happier than my father! This means he'd stop burning fuel to bring me here only to sit in his car and stare at trees or the ever blue sky. Back to today! I didn't realize Nyanya had more people than the total number of Nigeria as a whole, my goodness! Today I am determined to meet new people. Well, I'm on my way to AYA, in a keke and Mann! this ride has issues. I do hope we get there on time. The traffic in this part of town is something else. I'm still determined to have a great time! I believe that we were never born to face life alone, or else, Adam would have lived without Eve. I realized something priceless today! That people aren't as scary as they seem. I'm building a habit of puttin...

Ashanti's Widowership

Echoes of good times Swayed by the colours of your past  Today is full of those memories  I wonder at tomorrow's uncertainties  Pillows have felt my cries  Soaked my tears  and kept my head in awful comfort  The bed still honours your body shape  The cock crowl is an alarm to another miserable day  time has become slow and night comes fast  When shall I behold your face again?  Shall I hear your Loud thunderous voice again?  Our home has become a lonely land  Every corner leaves a trace of your being  The dogs bark in agony  and the pictures on the wall argue restlessly Ah! your departure is death itself!  How long shall I tarry?! Why didn't you take me with you.?  Take me or forever hold your jolting silence!  CATALEABONEZ

SPEAK

I wonder in the toxins in the land. That a man is no longer safe with his fellow man, that the bees now sting with an intention to kill, that life is nothing but a facade of colours. Some days are extremely beautiful and the other day is just a sad ash day. We have never stopped once to think that we might be the generators of these toxins. We seat like decent people but the little things we neglect cause a great deal of trouble! It may not be intentional but it happened anyway and sometimes we ignore the outcome. How can a man prefer any other thing to the life of a friend? Are thinking about how you've valued something about a human being? It is the smile you refused to render when they needed it! It is betrayal! It is the neglect of family! It is most importantly the refusal to speak! I sit still to ponder over the current state of mind of some persons. Caused by the pains of life, they have given up to depression. Because family refused to play it's role when they ne...
